Maryland Works Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

In October, Maryland Works celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In collaboration with Employ Prince George’s, Maryland Works will host a training this month on Employment Law and Federal Hiring for individuals with disabilities. Inclusion for individuals with barriers to employment is important, especially those with a disability. Last month, Maryland Works, through partnership with the State Department of Disabilities and the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council convened a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) focus group. The group consisted of HR and Leadership professionals from major companies around the State. The purpose of the group was to learn about DEI efforts, including initiatives to hire people with disabilities. We also met to identify what might be helpful to businesses and others who are working to include or expand a focus on disability in DEI initiatives. People with disabilities play an important role in a diverse and inclusive American workforce. Maryland Works is proud to be a part of this great work.
