The Peer-to Peer Learning Community Round Table Discussion

Will be conducted as a Zoom Meeting.

The work of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) is physically, emotionally and spiritually draining and as a result, we must practice ongoing nurturing of self-care. We are all faced with unique challenges and no two people have the same self-care needs; however, we each must make an intentional investment in caring for ourselves if we are to care for others.

During this in-depth discussion you will receive knowledge and insights that will inform you of self-care practices to help you support others in the midst of a crisis.

The Round Table Discussion will cover:

The Importance of Self-Care -- we will explore what we mean by self-care and why it matters. We will examine some common misconceptions and truths about self-care. We will review & discuss Dr. Alan Wolfelt's Self-Care Manifesto.

Identifying Stressors & Coping Skills - identify the biggest stressors you are facing right now as well as the signs of burn-out. We will identify the positive and possibly negative strategies we are currently using to cope with stress and discover new ways to manage stress that help us to build resilience.

Creating a Daily Self-Care Plan-- we will look at our unique self-care needs in 7 key life areas. We will identify the current ways we are supporting ourselves in each area and what aspects of our life need more support on a daily basis. We will then create a plan that supports our overall well-being on a daily basis.
